II. The Book And Its Writing

The oracles of the book are dated with such precision that there is no debate as to the time of the ministry of Haggai. Each is dated to the second year of Darius, 520 b.c.

The book was prepared either by the prophet himself or one close to him no later than 500 b.c. and maybe as early as 515 b.c. as part of the liturgy for the dedication of the temple.
