The twenty-one verses of Obadiah carry one of the strongest predictions of judgment to be found anywhere in the Scriptures. There are no words of hope or consolation. No conditions for possible deliverance are prescribed. The doom of Edom is sealed. God will bring total destruction to Edom. There will be no remnant, no progeny. The case is heard, judged, and ended.

For Israel, however, which tried to make peace and had a passion for the ideal, a vision for the future, and a hope for descendants, there would be a future day of triumph.
