III. Recipients

Peter writes to members of several Christian communities who have received and been grounded in the Gospel. They have received and are established in a “precious” faith (1:1) as members of the eternal kingdom (1:10-11), and they are acquainted with the writings of Paul (3:15). In addition, the readers are threatened by certain false teachers who have perverted God’s grace and who would lead them into theological and ethical error.
