IV. State of The Text—Place In Canon

The text of Joel is well preserved. Except for a few minor variations, the Masoretic text and ancient versions such as the Septuagint, the Peshitta, and the Vulgate are in agreement with each other.

The Masoretic text places Joel in the second place in the Book of the Twelve. The Twelve were considered as one book, probably because together they can be contained on a scroll of approximately the same length as the books of Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel. The Twelve achieved canonicity as a unit.
