M. Uzziah Reigns Over Judah (15:1-7)

Known also as Azariah, Uzziah succeeded his father, Amaziah, as king of Judah. The account here tells us virtually nothing about him other than that he reigned for over fifty years, walked generally in the ways of Yahweh, and suffered from some sort of skin disease. In a more extended treatment, the Chronicler presents Uzziah as an able ruler who experienced considerable military success (2Ch 26:1-23). Such success, however, apparently led to his downfall, for Uzziah came to symbolize the dangerous and destructive journey from fidelity to faithlessness that results from excessive pride (2Ch 26:16).
