N. The Storm (8:22-25)

The miracle of the calming of the storm demonstrates Jesus' power over nature. It contrasts the disciples' powerlessness with Jesus' ability to cope with the storm. There are theological implications in the story. The disciples' reaction to the miracle implied that Jesus was divine, since they spoke about him (v.25) in terms the psalmist used for God (107:28-29). Moreover, it is possible that Jesus' rebuke to the storm implied that there was a demon at work in it. Christian interpreters have also used this story to illustrate the power of Christ to bring salvation to people who are overwhelmed by the storms of daily life.
