O. Ministry on the Other Side of the Jordan (10:40-42)

After this display of hostility against him, Jesus retired across the Jordan to John’s former place of ministry (cf. 1:28). To the wonder of the people who gathered to him there, his life had lived up to the pronouncements John had made about him (cf. 1:26-27, 29-34; 3:27-36), and many came to faith (cf. 7:31; 8:30; 11:45). This summary, coming at the end of the Jerusalem debates, serves to emphasize the gospel’s message about Jesus.
