V. The Final Exhortation: Grow In Grace (3:18)

Peter concludes his letter with the exhortation to which all his remarks have led. If life in grace works as he has indicated and awaits its necessary climax at Christ’s coming, then all Christians must grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. To fail to grow is to fail to confirm one’s call and election (1:10), which, in turn, is to fail finally to enter the kingdom. If, however, there is no hope for those who refuse to grow, there is abundant help for those who trust the very great promises of God’s Word (1:3). The Lord who makes the promises knows how to deliver the godly (2:9) and to preserve them for the new world in which righteousness will dwell (3:13).
