V. The Journey To Jerusalem (9:51-19:27)

This gospel devotes nearly half its pages to the last journey of Jesus to Jerusalem. Luke says the time was approaching for him to be taken up to heaven (9:51). Aware of the destiny that awaited him, Jesus embarked on that period of his life that was to lead to a cross and an empty tomb and was to culminate in his ascension. In making this journey he set a pattern for obedience for his followers, a pattern that was followed by Paul as he made his own last journey to Jerusalem (Ac 20:22-23; 21:10-14).
