Eduth

EDUTH ĕ duth’ (עֵדוּת, H6343, warning, reminder, testimony). Hebrew meaning not found in Eng. VSS. See Testimony.

The eduth refers specifically and collectively to the Ten Commandments (see Ten Commandments) on the two tablets of stone as the all important and solemn divine charge (Exod 25:16, 21; 31:18; 32:15; 34:29). These were the basic terms of the covenant made by Yahweh as Suzerain with His people. Among modern Jews a man gives his eduth or word that he will perform a certain obligation.
