ELIHU ĭ lī’ hu (אֱלִיה֣וּא, אֱלִיה֗וּ, or אֱלִיאָ֖ב, LXX ̔Ηλίου or ̓Ελιάβ, meaning He is my God or My God is Father.) This name was carried by five men in the OT. 1. Ancestor of the prophet Samuel (1 Sam 1:1) who is called Eliab (1 Chron 6:27) and Eliel (1 Chron 6:34).

2. One of the soldiers of the tribe of Manasseh who deserted Saul to join David’s army to become a commander (1 Chron 12:20).

3. A gatekeeper of the Korahites, serving at the Tabernacle during the time of David (1 Chron 26:7).

4. A brother of David, who became a leader of the tribe of Judah during David’s reign (1 Chron 27:18); also called Eliab in LXX (cf. 1 Sam 16:6; 17:13, 28 [A]; 1 Chron 2:13; 2 Chron 11:18 [A]).

5. A young man, son of Barachel the Buzite of the family of Ram (Job 32:2). He became angry with Job’s arguments and the failure of his three friends to answer Job. Thereupon he launched into a speech which held that suffering has a disciplinary purpose (Job 32:6-37:24).
