Eliphal

ELIPHAL ĭ lī’ fəl (אֱלִיפַ֥, God has judged). The son of Ur, one of the mighty men of David (1 Chron 11:35). See also Eliphalat (number 3). “Eliphelet, the son of Ahasbai, the son of the Maacathite” (2 Sam 23:34 ASV), and “Eliphelet the son of Ahasbai of Maacah” (RSV). While the Chronicles passage and the Samuel passage are parallel, and there is a similarity in the names of Eliphal and Eliphelet, the fathers’ names are different. It is not unusual for men to have more than one name so that different generations would designate the same individual differently.
