En-Tappuah

EN-TAPPUAH ĕn tăp yŏŏ ə (עֵ֥ין תַּפּֽוּחַ, meaning spring of the apple tree, Josh 17:7). This spring was located at the town of Tappuah on the border between Ephraim and Manasseh in central Pal. It is usually identified with modern Tell Sheikh Abu Zarad about eight m. S of Shechem.

The town was a Canaanite stronghold which held out against the Israelites for a period of time during the conquest. The town’s lands fell to the onslaught of Manasseh, but it held out until it was finally taken over by Ephraim (Josh 17:8).
