Eumenes

EUMENES ū’ mə nēz (Εὐμενής, well disposed). A ruler (1 Macc 8:8) to whom the Romans had allotted much Syrian territory. He was Eumenes II (197-158 b.c.), king of Pergamum, a city located between two tributaries of the ancient river Caicus in W Asia Minor. His territorial rewards resulted from the assistance given to the Romans during their war with the Seleucid Antiochus III the Great from 191 b.c.
