EYESERVICE (ὀφθαλμοδουλία, G4056, a Hel. compound, service to be seen, to please the eyes, not therefore out of any good motivation). The term appears in nearly identical phrases (Eph 6:6; Col 3:22). The term is defined perfectly in the context in Ephesians, “Slaves, be obedient...not in the way of eyeservice, as menpleasers, but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart.”
