Ezem, Azem

EZEM, AZEM ē’ zəm (עָֽצֶם, LXX Ασομ, Ιασον, Αισεμ; bone, mighty, fortress). (Azem found only in KJV of Josh 15:29; 19:3.) A city in the extreme S of Canaan, assigned first to Judah (Josh 15:29), and later to Simeon (Josh 19:3; 1 Chron 4:29). The following identifications have been proposed: (1) El-Aujeh, fifteen m. SW of Rehoboth (Young); (2) Azmon of Numbers 34:4 and Joshua 15:4 (HDB, ISBE); (3) Umm el-’Azam (-’Azem, -’Izam) (GTT). The location of this last is disputed, but it is prob. about twelve m. SE of Beersheba.
