JASHEN jā’ shən (יָשֵׁ֖ן). One member of the thirty “mighty men” of David. The Heb. text of 2 Samuel 23:32 reads “the sons of Jashen,” whereas the parallel passage in 1 Chronicles 11:34 (KJV) has “the sons of Hashem the Gizonite.” It is clear that “sons of” is a dittography of the last three consonants of the previous word (שַׁעַלְבֹנִֽי). The original reading must have ben either “Jashen (or Hashem) the Gizonite.”
