JEGAR-SAHADUTHA je gär-sāha du’ tha (יְגַ֖ר שָׂהֲדוּתָ֑א ; LXX βουνὸ̀ς τῆς μαρτρίας, meaning, witness-heap). Aramaic name used by Laban to describe a heap of stones set up by him and Jacob, who called it Galeed (Gen 31:47). The latter term may be etymologically related to the name “Gilead” which was later applied to that country.
