JEHOHANAN je hō hā’ nən (יְהﯴחָנָ֣ן, Yahweh is gracious). The name of persons mostly in priestly and royal circles. 1. A Korahite, sixth son of Meshalemiah, who was among the gatekeepers assigned by David (1 Chron 26:3).

2. A “commander of thousands” in the army of Judah of the time of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah (2 Chron 17:15).

3. Father of Ishmael, one of the “commanders of hundreds” upon whom Jehoiada relied in his planning to move against and oust Athaliah (2 Chron 23:1).

4. A son of Bebai who had married a “foreign woman” on Ezra’s list among the laity of Israel (Ezra 10:28).

5. One of the priests who returned to Jerusalem with Zerubbabel and Jeshua (Neh 12:13).

6. One of the singers mentioned as a participant in the purification and dedication of the wall of Jerusalem (Neh 12:42).
