JEHOIARIB jĭ hoi’ ə rĭb (יְהֹ֣ויָרִ֔יב, Yahweh pleads). A priest living in Jerusalem. His family was the first of the twenty-four courses of priests in David’s time (1 Chron 24:7), but the seventeenth in the time of Zerubbabel (Neh 12:6); called Joiarib in Nehemiah 11:10; 12:6, 19; called Joarib in 1 Maccabees 2:1; 14:29 (KJV Jarib). The family is mentioned among those who returned from the Babylonian Exile (1 Chron 9:10).
