JEHONATHAN jĭ hŏn’ ə thən (יְהﯴנָתָֽן, Yahweh has given). Another form of the name Jonathan. 1. One of the six Levites whom King Jehoshaphat sent to teach the law in the cities of Judah (2 Chron 17:8). Appointed to the same mission were a number of princes and priests.

2. The head of the priestly family of Shemaiah in the days when Joiakim the son of Jeshua was high priest (Neh 12:18).
