JOSES jō’ zĭz (̓Ιωσῆς, G2736, a variant form in rabbinic writers for Joseph). 1. Brother of Jesus (Mark 6:3; in Matt 13:55 the Gr. is ̓Ιώσηφ, Joseph, and so rendered in RSV).

2. Brother of James the Less, whose mother Mary stood by the cross of Jesus and watched His burial (Mark 15:40, 47). Some would identify this Joses with 1 above.
