JOZABAD jō’ zə băd (יﯴזָבָ֣ד, shortened form of יְהﯴזָבָ֨ד, LXX ̓Ιωζαβεδ; ̓Ιωζαβδος; ̓Ιεζεβουδ; Yahweh has bestowed). 1. The son of Shomer and of Shimrith, a Moabitess, who conspired with Jozacar to assassinate Joash, the king of Judah (837-800 b.c.) because he had murdered the son of the priest Jehoida, whose wife had protected the infant Joash from the murderous Athaliah (2 Kings 12:21; 2 Chron 24:26).

2. There were three men named Jozabad who joined David at Ziklag as men of war skilled with the bow and slings. One was Jozabad of Gederah, a Benjaminite (1 Chron 12:4); the other two were from the tribe of Manasseh (1 Chron 12:20). (There could be a mistake of dittography in v. 20.)

3. A Benjaminite chief during the reign of Jehoshaphat, who led 180,000 men of war in the service of the king (2 Chron 17:18).

4. The second son of Obed-edom, a Korahite who was appointed by David to be a gatekeeper (1 Chron 26:4).

5. A Levite overseer in Hezekiah’s time, who served under Conaniah and Shimei in the matter of contributions and tithes (2 Chron 31:13).

6. One of the chief Levites serving during the time of Josiah (2 Chron 35:9).

7. There is a Jozabad, the son of Jeshua, a Levite, who is mentioned as one serving in Jerusalem at the time of Ezra’s return (Ezra 8:33). This is perhaps the same man mentioned in 10:23 as having married a foreign wife; in Nehemiah 8:7 as helping the people to understand the law; and in Nehemiah 11:16 as one who had charge over the outside work of the house of God.

8. The son of Passhur of the sons of the priests, who married a foreign wife and pledged to put her away (Ezra 10:22).
