THONG. A narrow strip of leather used as a lace, strap, etc. In Isaiah 58:6 (אֲגֻדֹּ֣ות; KJV HEAVY BURDENS), it is used fig. of the burdensome exactions with which the poor were oppressed. In Jeremiah 27:2 (מﯴסֵרֹ֖ות, KJV BOND) it is used literally of thongs placed around the neck. It also refers to thongs to bind a prisoner (Acts 22:25, ἱμάς, G2666). Mark 1:7 and John 1:27 mention thongs that bind sandals (ἱμάς, G2666; KJV LATCHET).
