22:9 rest . . . peace and quiet. On several occasions peace and rest from warfare are seen as God’s reward to His faithful people (v. 18; 2 Chr. 14:6, 7; 15:15; 20:30; 23:21). This blessing was held out to those returned from Babylonian exile as a basis for hope in their troubled days.
