1:33 Solomon . . . on my own mule. Mules and donkeys were used as mounts of royalty (Judg. 10:4; 2 Sam. 13:29; 18:9; Zech. 9:9). David is therefore making a public declaration that Solomon is the heir.
Gihon. The Gihon spring, located about one-half mile north of En-rogel (v. 9), was a major supply of water for Jerusalem (2 Chr. 32:30; 33:14). Due to topography, En-rogel is not visible from Gihon; however, the two are within earshot (v. 41).
