12:7 may plead with you. Samuel has taken the stand himself as a defendant and been acquitted (vv. 3–5); now he takes the role of prosecutor and the people become the defendants. Their crime is having desired a king in total disregard of all the “righteous deeds of the Lord” throughout the time of the Exodus and the judges (vv. 7–11).
