The Hebrew verb translated “railed” means “to shriek” or “to fly at” something and is closely related to the Hebrew noun for “birds of prey.” The same verb is used of Saul in 15:19 to describe his unrestrained “pouncing” upon the Amalekite spoils (cf. 14:32).
