1:18–20 Paul returns to the theme of vv. 3–7, focusing less on Timothy’s potential for success as Paul’s representative than on Timothy’s continued faithfulness to Christ, especially in contrast to two members (perhaps leaders) of the church at Ephesus who “made shipwreck of their faith” (v. 19).
