5:21 I hate, I despise. Two Hebrew words here combine to express the attitude more forcefully than either could by itself. The result can be translated, “I reject with utter hatred.”
I take no delight. The language refers to burnt offerings. In the Mosaic covenant, the Lord declares that if His people were disobedient, He would “not smell” the fragrance of their offerings (Lev. 26:31).
