3:1 an image of gold. Although the narrow proportions could suggest an obelisk rather than a statue, the monument is called an “image.” It was probably a figure standing on a pedestal. The gold was probably plating, the fabrication of the image being much like that described in Is. 40:19; 41:7; Jer. 10:3–9.
