3:5 horn . . . harp. Of the six terms for musical instruments, the three translated “lyre,” “harp,” and “bagpipe” are borrowed from Greek. This is not surprising since the international exchange of musicians and musical instruments at royal courts had a long history. The presence of these three Greek terms in Daniel does not establish that the account was written after the time of Alexander the Great, as is sometimes argued.
