13:1–18 Moses issues warnings against apostasy in ch. 13. The first (vv. 1–5) concerns false prophets. The other sections warn against a near relative who tempts to apostasy (vv. 6–11) and the apostasy of a whole town (vv. 12–18). In each case, the penalty is death.
