the Caphtorim. If Caphtor means Crete, as is usual, then the reference would be to an early and probably local Philistine community (before the later, great Philistine invasion of c. 1200 b.c.), of which the Abimelech in Gen. 20 was perhaps a member (cf. Jer. 47:4).
