The symbols of gender difference were to be respected, and while such symbols vary over time and from culture to culture, the principle of gender distinction remains (Gen. 1:27; cf. 1 Tim. 2:13). Violations of the creation order, such as homosexuality and bestiality (Lev. 18:22, 23; 20:13; 1 Cor. 6:9; 1 Tim. 1:10), are an “abomination.” It has also been suggested that the interchange of clothing was a part of pagan religious practice.
