5:3 Not with our fathers. Moses is differentiating the Sinai covenant from the promise of the land made to the patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It was not the patriarchs who stood before God at Sinai, but the Israelites of Moses’ day (11:2 note).
