7:3 You shall not intermarry. Marriage is the closest of human ties and its sacredness was guarded in Old Testament law. The corollary is that marriage must not be contracted with unbelievers, a principle repeated in the New Testament (1 Cor. 7:39). Israel did not maintain her spiritual purity and suffered for it (Ps. 106:37–39).
