9:29–32 Esther and Mordecai sent a final official letter regarding Purim that carefully places the feast within the setting of the more established Israelite practices of fasting and lamentation (v. 31). In this way Purim was made an official religious celebration of the Jews, a task the writer of Esther seemed to view as important because of the non-Mosaic origin of the feast.
