8:25 During the swarms of flies, Pharaoh offers to negotiate by agreeing to less than the Lord demands. Moses regularly refuses to compromise: he will neither worship in the land nor go less than a three-day journey (v. 28); neither will he leave behind the women and children (10:9–11) nor leave the flocks and herds (10:24). At last, after Pharaoh repeatedly broke faith, God’s liberation is total. Israel not only goes out to worship at Sinai but leaves Egypt for Canaan.
