Pit: 31:14, 16; 32:18, 23, 24, 30; Job 33:18–30; Ps. 30:3, 9; 55:23; 88:4–6; 103:4; 143:7; Prov. 1:12; Is. 14:15; 38:18). These two images are combined in 28:8; Ps. 69:15; Jon. 2:5, 6. The prophet describes the mythological waters of chaos engulfing the island and its inhabitants (28:2 note).
