34:23 David. This promise of restoration (vv. 6, 10–16) looks forward to a messianic kingdom. God’s Servant, One like David, would rule in peace, righteousness, and prosperity exceeding that known during the rule of the historical David. No descendant of David in the restoration period fulfilled Ezekiel’s prophetic description of Israel’s future. The New Testament identifies Jesus as the Good Shepherd (vv. 2–10 note).
