Ezek 47:3–12

47:3–12 The river brings life everywhere it goes, transforming Israel into a paradisal garden. Jerusalem is built on a geological watershed on top of a ridge of hills. Rain falling there flows into the Kidron Valley and makes its way into the Dead Sea. Jesus appealed to the images used in this passage to describe Himself. He told the Samaritan woman that He was the source of life-giving water (John 4:10–14). When the disciples were surprised that Jesus was talking with a Samaritan woman, He spoke to them of an unending harvest that had already begun (John 4:27–38), in effect drawing on Ezekiel’s picture of trees bearing twelve crops a year. John also records Jesus’ saying that He is the source of streams of living water, adding the comment that Jesus was speaking of God’s Spirit (John 7:37–39).
