7:11 letter. The letter (vv. 12–26), written in Aramaic (4:7 note), gives Ezra the authority to carry out the reforms recorded in the following chapters. The letter may have been written by Ezra and then signed by Artaxerxes, or Artaxerxes may have had Jewish advisers help compose the letter, as some of the details seem to indicate.
