5:6 Paul is not arguing against circumcision itself (6:15; 1 Cor. 7:19; cf. Acts 16:3) but against the attempt to make the rite a requirement for salvation. The one who believes in Jesus Christ, and demonstrates the reality of his belief through a sanctified life, is saved. See “Faith and Works” at James 2:24.
