13:9 If you . . . then I. Faith in God’s sovereignty gave Abraham the freedom to be generous (cf. 14:19, 20). His generosity typified that of Israel to Moab and Ammon, Lot’s descendants (Deut. 2:8–19). God applauds generosity and peacemakers (Lev. 19:18; Ps. 133; Matt. 5:43–48; James 3:17, 18).
