Gen 27:39

27:39 from the fatness . . . from the dew. The Hebrew wording is similar to Jacob’s blessing, but with a very different meaning. While God was to give to Jacob “of the dew” and “of the fatness” (v. 28), Esau was to dwell “from” (lit. “away from”) “the fatness of the earth” and away from “the dew of heaven.” This blessing found fulfillment as Esau’s descendants, the Edomites, settled in the arid region south of the Dead Sea. Esau inherited an anti-blessing: he was denied the earth’s fertility and dominion over his brother (cf. vv. 28, 29).
