2:20 temple. Lit. “palace,” the heavenly sanctuary from which the Lord, the Great King, rules His world (Ps. 11:4).

let all the earth keep silence. A sharp contrast is drawn between the silent idols (v. 19) and the living God, before whom all others must keep silence. The woes of judgment on the proud and wicked culminate in the universal silence of worship in the glorious presence of the incomparable God (v. 14; Ps. 46:10).
