my servant. Zerubbabel was God’s chosen representative to accomplish His work. Isaiah spoke of a greater Servant who would come, whom Zerubbabel foreshadows (Is. 42:10). Jesus is both the descendant of Zerubbabel (Matt. 1:12) and the Servant of God (Acts 4:27, 30).

signet ring. This was a symbol of authority and power. Jeremiah uses the term to refer to one who is precious to God (Jer. 22:24).
