Isa 35:9–10

35:9, 10 redeemed . . . ransomed. These two Hebrew words often appear as parallels (Jer. 31:11; Hos. 13:14), and are almost synonymous. Both words are used to describe God’s deliverance of Israel from Egypt (Ex. 6:6; 13:15, where the word “redeemed” translates the word for “ransomed” here). They play an important role in Isaiah’s description of the future deliverance from the Exile as a new exodus (51:10, 11). The Lord is the “Redeemer” (41:14 and note; 49:26) who has forgiven Israel’s sins (44:22; Ps. 103:3, 4).
