Job 10:21

10:21 before I go . . . return. Notice the difference between Job’s present description of that place as a land of darkness, while in 3:13–19 he looked on it as being a place of peace and rest. This proves that Job’s emotional raging must not be used as a basis for constructing normative Old Testament or Christian theology. The rule of interpretation should be that when Job or the counselors are in agreement with normative theology we accept them. But in the dramatic flow of the book, neither he nor they can be relied on as a source of theological formulations.
